Response to 'Censorship'

Like nosugarmama said, things like that Janet Jackson fiasco shouldn't be a reason to sue a company. It was an accident, people were acting like the whole thing was set up (I will, later in this post, comment on the sexist standpoint this fiasco brought up).

It is completely in a parent's right to be worried about what their children watch. There are several shows on tv nowadays that have innappropriate language and sexual content. And they're shows that are rather popular. Sex and the City, Friends, The Simpsons, Will and Grace, Family Guy, all are shows that are innapropriate for the youth of America. But also labeled before every one of those shows is TV14 or some other warning that the following show is innappropriate for the younger population. If parents are that worried about what their children watch, then they should monitor them or put parental controls on the system. And movies, as well, have ratings that tell you what you're about to see. If a parent brings an 8 year old into an R rated movie and is upset about what they see, then thats their fault. R is 17 or older, we all know that, so bringing a child into one of those movies without knowing the consequences is very redundant.

Now on to my sexist issues with the Janet Jackson fiasco. We've all seen the tape played on the news over and over and over and over again. All we hear is how it was so horrid for Ms. Jackson to do such a thing. She wrecked the youth of America (IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!!). But, since we've all seen the tape, we know exactly what happened. They were singing, Justin comes over, rips off her shirt. The look on her face was of complete shock. She had no idea that that was gonna happen, neither did he. Yet on every news station, its completely her fault. Oh nonono, Justin did nothing. He was just the one who ripped her shirt in the first place! I'm not saying that it is either of their faults. I still firmly think it was an accident. It just infuriated me when all the news stations blamed Janet for what happened when Justin was equal in fault. Janet had to make a public apology and Justin did nothing. Grrrrrr.......

I'm not going to comment on the Janet Jackson thing, because I don't know enough details, but I agree with you on the parental thing. It's the same with video games; parents get all angry with companies for making games or movies that have explicit content, when it's their job to screen what their kids watch anyway! It's called responsibility, and sadly, a lot of parents these days - the ones who don't monitor what their kids are doing - are lacking in it.
